The Folk-Moot is the heart of Woden's Folk; these are held at local and national level usually coinciding with a major Wodenic Rite in the Wheel of the Year. These are strictly religious rites held at an ancient site in England. Here we gather for a social drink, then set up an overnight camp in the afternoon/evening ready for the rites of the night. A Holy Fire is kindled and the Mead-Horn passed around the circle, toasting the gods and ancestors. Rites are made suited to the time of the year and to the place where the rites are held. There has always been a magico-mystical element to our rites and many strange things have happened over the years - things which do not happen at a mundane level. There has always been a felling of kinship and fellowship amongst those who gather around a Sacred Fire, drinking and singing songs, reciting poems about the gods, and making merriment until the early hours of the morning. This is the way to a Folkish Brotherhood where the feeling of comradeship is great and felt by all present. Ours is not the way of the "Urban Shaman" within his soulless city, but the Way of the Gods where we commune with our gods and ancestors in the great outdoors - in the Holy Groves and the Sacred Sites built long ago by a long-forgotten race. The Sacred Fire stands for the Sun at the Immovable Centre, around which the Folk gather; the rites are performed and runic galdor chanted, and the Mead-Horn is emptied as the Holy Symbel is performed. The Mead-Horn passes sun-wise around the circle and the names of the Gods and Heroes are called upon to be with us during our rites. These are truly religious occasions that lift the spirit and make our Folk feel the one-ness with Nature and the Cosmic Forces. In doing so we create the Heildom which is a magical time outside the mundane time. This is the magic of the Wodenic Folk-Moot. Our Folk-Moots are open to WF Supporters and WF Activists, and guests are welcome to attend and to see what we are doing. These are advertised in our Hammer of Thunor newsletter. We hold national moots for England Day, Midsummer, and the Winter Finding, as well as the Wandering Wolves Hike which is held yearly in the South of England and which is a hike and overnight camp. |
