The White Dragon

The White Dragon is the symbol of Eternal England; it was revived by the Cult of Woden within the Odinist movement here in England. Its revival started within the Odinic Rite of which I was a Court of Gothar member. The creation of the White Dragon Kindred was the first move in the rebirth of this ancient symbol of the English Folk. Over a period of some 16 years or so the White Dragon Rite has been performed at a number of key sites across England, and a special White Dragon Talisman was placed at the central point of England to awaken the English Dragon.

Such has been the success of such magical rites that today the White Dragon is used by a number of English groups who are taking part in the English Awakening. It has today become symbolic of the English Revolution. The White Dragon on a Red background is the flag used by all such groups, and this has today become a standardised symbol of the English.

What is not so generally known is that the White Dragon has another, and more esoteric, symbolism. Many cultures have symbolised the Milky Way with the Serpent or Dragon; the Milky Way is our own galaxy, made up of 88 constellations, and which forms a curvilinear swastika in two dimensional form. The name "milky" leads us to the idea of a white way - a White Dragon. Since the Milky Way is symbolised by the World Tree (Yggdrasil) or the World Pillar (Irminsul) then these two symbols must be associated with the White Dragon too. Indeed, we find this to be so when we analyse the name "Iggdrasil" -

Igg = Ing = The Terrible One;

Dra = Dragon = "to turn";

Sil = The Sun.

Here we find the Sun-Dragon of Igg; the name "Sil" can be found in the "Silbury Hill" area (Sun-Burg Hill). Turning to the name "Irminsul" we can do the same type of reckoning -

Ir = Er/Ar/Ur/Or;

Min = Man;

Sul = The Sun.

Here we have the Primal Sun-Man (Ur-Man-Sul) or the Ar-Man Sun-Pillar (Ar-Man-Saule), or the Sun-Pillar of the Aryan, or again the Sun-Pillar of Irmin. In all of this we must remember that the Ermine Street (A1 trunk-road) is the counterpart of an "arm" of the Milky Way here in Britain; this is named after Irmin. It makes up part of the Ermine Street - Watling Street which are the "arms" of the Milky Way, which branches at the Dark Rift at the Galactic Centre - here lies the Black Sun. The trunk of the Milky Way is WEH (Weoh), the two arms WAN (Woden) & WIL (Will). This is the triple-god Woden-Will-Weoh. The Saxons named the Milky Way Iring's Way, the way of the Son of Ir.

This makes the White Dragon symbol even more powerful, for it actually symbolises our whole galaxy, and its origins & destiny. At the centre is the Black Sun (Black Hole) which is the area of creation & destruction. This area is located by finding the Cygnus the Swan constellation, symbolised by the Wilmington Giant. It is interesting to note that the Wilmington Giant stands in a similar shape to the Ear-Rune (Ir) or Cweorth-Rune, and may locate a similar point upon the soil of England to that of the Galactic Centre.

The Milky Way in the sky has always been seen by our ancestors as the Way to Walhalla; the name "Wal-Hall" meaning "Hall of Turning" or the "Spiral Hall". Here I am reminded of the "Spiral Castle" found in certain legends in these islands. Since the means of travel to Walhalla was through the Divine Hero being collected by the Walkyries who were Swan Maidens we may well assume that there is a connection with Cygnus the Swan. The term "Wal-Hall" could also mean "Coiled Hall" which reminds me of the Coiled Serpent which itself is a Dragon when it is winged - the Winged Coiled Serpent. The White Winged Coiled Serpent is the Milky Way itself. It is also noticeable that a coiled shape is given to the Black Hole.

In Norse Mythology there are 800 doors to Walhalla, from each of which march 540 Einheriar Warriors, led by Ragnar Lodbrok. The sum of 800 x 540 is 432,000, the number of years in the Kali Yuga according to Vedic Lore. Perhaps there is more than just the rebirth of the Sun (and the "Son") when we reach the year 2012? There is thus a far more significant meaning to the symbol of the White Dragon, which is linked to the origins and to the destiny of the English Folk.
